Boğazköy–Gönyeli: pedestrian killed in crash, another seriously injured
A serious road accident occurred on the Boğazköy–Gönyeli road: one pedestrian was killed and another suffered serious injuries. The driver of the car involved in the crash fled the scene.
According to police, the accident occurred today at around 08:30 in the Kamacı Garaj area. The unidentified driver of a car with registration number MP 773 was travelling towards Gönyeli but lost control on a right-hand bend.
The car veered off the road, first hitting a kerb and then colliding with two cars parked on the premises of a business. The vehicle then struck two pedestrians who were nearby — Hasan Düzgen, 39, and Rasul Joraev, 27.
After the collision, the car continued moving, hit another parked vehicle and the wall of the business, and then came to a stop.
Hasan Düzgen died at the scene. Rasul Joraev was taken to Dr. Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital in Nicosia, where, after receiving medical treatment, he was placed under observation in the surgical intensive care unit.
Police reported that the driver left the scene on foot after the accident. The search for him is continuing.
The investigation is ongoing.
