Eastern Mediterranean University in Famagusta increases number of international students by 20.9% in one year
Eastern Mediterranean University (Doğu Akdeniz Üniversitesi, DAÜ) in Famagusta increased the number of international students by 20.9% and the number of students from Turkey by 7.9% in the 2025/2026 academic year. The university now has 15,890 students from more than 100 countries.
The figures were presented by Professor Ali Öztüren, Vice Rector for Promotion and Corporate Communications. According to him, the share of international citizens among new enrolments increased from 19% to 25%, while the share of Turkish citizens rose from 51% to 52%.
The university was founded in 1979. Today, it employs more than 1,000 lecturers from 35 countries, and the number of graduates has exceeded 80,000 — they live in more than 110 countries.
The university attributes the growth to the expansion of its work abroad. The number of overseas visits and presentations increased from 28 in the 2024/2025 academic year to 32 in 2025/2026, the number of target countries exceeded 60, and digital campaigns are conducted in English, French, Russian and Arabic.
The university has agreements with more than 130 academic institutions in 36 countries.
