Eastern Mediterranean University to hold international symposium on women and family on 24–26 September
Eastern Mediterranean University (DAÜ) in Famagusta will hold the Fourth International Symposium on the Empowerment of Women and Family from 24 to 26 September. The opening will take place on Thursday, 24 September, at 09:30 at the Rauf Raif Denktaş Culture and Congress Palace.

The symposium will bring together scholars, researchers and experts from different countries. The discussions will focus on the status of women in public, economic, cultural and political life, family structures, social change and care work for loved ones.
The co-chairs are Associate Professor Süheyla Üçışık Erbilen, director of DAÜ’s Centre for Women’s Studies and Education, and Kaan Gündeç, professor at the Faculty of Architecture. The programme was prepared together with 13 universities, including universities from Türkiye, Azerbaijan and Ukraine.
Professor Pınar Ülgen and Associate Professor Şuay Nilhan Açıkalın will deliver the keynote presentations, speaking about the history of women and international relations. A separate session, “Pioneering Women of the Republic”, will focus on women’s contributions to literature, journalism, education, science, politics, law, art and culture from the 18th century to the present day.
Academic sessions will take place simultaneously in several halls and online. The programme will cover women’s labour and economic independence, social policy, education, entrepreneurship and leadership, women’s health, family relations, art, law, digital culture and gender studies.
