Early general and local elections in the TRNC to be held on 6 December
TRNC Minister of Labour and Social Security Oğuzhan Hasipoğlu said that early general and local elections in Northern Cyprus would be held on the same day — 6 December. The decision was made at a meeting of the Council of Ministers.
The minister said this during the Ana Haber programme on tv2020, answering journalist Emre Diner’s questions by phone. According to Hasipoğlu, the date was unanimously supported by all partners in the ruling coalition, bringing the uncertainty over the election date to an end.
The Council of Ministers’ decision to hold the general elections on 6 December will be submitted to the Republican Assembly in early October. The electoral process will then be considered by parliament.
According to the minister, the local elections are planned to be held on the same date as the general elections.
