An extensive plot of land near the village of Yıldırım (Famagusta district) has been turned into a large illegal dump due to the irresponsible actions of people who systematically dispose of household and construction waste there. The situation has prompted a wave of harsh criticism from local residents and environmental activists, who are demanding immediate intervention from the municipal authorities.

In a conversation with a Diyalog newspaper correspondent, villagers said that with the onset of summer heat and a sharp rise in air temperatures, being in the Yıldırım area has become unbearable. A strong suffocating stench rises from the rotting trash and is carried by the wind across the area, making it difficult for people to breathe in their own homes. Residents emphasize that the site is not just a visual blight that spoils the region's panoramic view and destroys the nature of Mesarya, but has also become a serious sanitary and epidemiological threat capable of triggering outbreaks of dangerous diseases and the spread of rodents.

According to the local population, this vacant lot has long been used as an uncontrolled waste disposal area, yet state and municipal bodies have still not taken any effective measures to eliminate the dump. Citizens are calling on the relevant authorities not to limit themselves to one-off actions, but to fully clear and rehabilitate the area, install strict physical controls and barriers to restrict vehicle access to the site, and introduce a system of continuous monitoring and heavy fines to permanently prevent further dumping of waste in the village.
