TRNC court sentences German citizen to prison over 544 mg of cannabis at Ercan Airport
A court in the TRNC sent a German citizen to prison for no more than 20 days: on September 8, 544 mg of cannabis mixed with tobacco was found in his luggage at Ercan Airport.

The man, identified by the initials A. E., was stopped at passport control. A narcotics department police dog named Pamir reacted to his belongings, and during the search, police found a hand-rolled cigarette containing tobacco and cannabis with a total weight of 544 mg.
During questioning, the detainee admitted his guilt. He explained that he had used the substance in Germany as prescribed by a doctor and obtained it with a prescription.
Police asked that he remain in custody: the foreign national has no permanent address or connections in the TRNC and could therefore flee. The man had been under arrest since September 8, and the case was heard at several sessions.
Judge Zehra Yalkut Bilgeç found him guilty of importing and possessing a narcotic substance and sentenced him to no more than 20 days in prison.
