Ercan has been unable to send nearly 1,000 blood test samples to Turkey for about a week
Following an inspection of Ercan Airport by Turkish civil aviation authorities, cargo transportation procedures were changed. As a result, airlines operating cargo services, including Turkish Airlines, have been unable to send blood test samples and certain other types of shipments to Turkey for about a week.
According to available information, the changes to the procedures were required following the inspection conducted at the airport. The process of implementing the new requirements has not yet been completed. The situation has particularly affected blood samples that need to be sent to laboratories in Turkey for additional testing.
Nearly 1,000 blood samples, including urgent ones, are currently awaiting shipment to Turkey at Ercan Airport. The delay may affect patients whose test results are needed to establish a diagnosis and determine further treatment.
It is reported that the relevant departments continue to work on completing the new procedures. Once they are approved, Turkish Airlines and other airlines are expected to resume transporting blood test samples and other shipments to Turkey.
