TRNC Education Minister inspects renovated Erenköy High School: 12 new classrooms ready by September 14

TRNC Minister of National Education Nazım Çavuşoğlu inspected Erenköy High School (Erenköy Lisesi), where structural reinforcement work has been completed and new educational facilities have been built. The school will welcome students on September 14, when the 2026–2027 academic year begins in Northern Cyprus.

The high school now has 12 new classrooms, a conference hall, a library, laboratories, computer rooms and foreign-language classrooms. A separate administrative building and cafeteria were also constructed, and the building was equipped to provide access for people with disabilities.

Çavuşoğlu linked the renovation to a programme to modernise the school building stock. He said the ministry had identified unsafe buildings and launched a programme to reinforce and rebuild them so that children would not have to continue studying in schools in poor condition.

A memorial corner dedicated to the “Champion Angels” — schoolgirls from the TRNC volleyball team who died in the 2023 earthquake in Türkiye — was set up in the renovated building. The ministry said their names would be commemorated in schools.

Deputy school principal Gürcan Yıkıcı and parent committee chairperson Göksel Hacıhasanoğlu expressed their gratitude for the completed work.
