Erhürman and Christodoulides to meet on September 17: the last meeting before the UN General Assembly
TRNC President Tufan Erhürman and President of the Republic of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides will hold another meeting on Thursday, September 17, at 11:00 in the buffer zone. This will be the leaders’ last in-person contact before the session of the UN General Assembly.

The talks will take place at the residence of the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative in the buffer zone. The sides’ negotiators are due to prepare for them: Mehmet Dana and Menelaos Menelaou are meeting this afternoon.
The leaders’ previous meeting took place on September 9 and lasted about an hour. Erhürman spoke then about the need to build trust between the two communities and called for avoiding steps that undermine it. The sides have not yet reached agreement on new confidence-building measures.
The leaders set the frequency of their contacts on August 26: they agreed to meet at least once a week, and more often if necessary.
The September 17 meeting is expected to clarify the sides’ positions ahead of contacts in New York at the end of September, where the session of the UN General Assembly will open.
