TRNC President Tufan Erhürman Hospitalized During Event

TRNC President Tufan Erhürman was hospitalized on the evening of July 10 after feeling unwell during the opening of the exhibition «Public Memory of Painting» in the former presidential palace building.

During the reception, which the president was holding together with his wife Nilden Bektaş Erhürman, he fell ill. An ambulance was called to the scene, after which Erhürman was taken to Dr. Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital in Nicosia.

According to Health Minister Hakan Dinçyürek, the president was admitted to the hospital at around 9:00 p.m. with complaints of back pain. Doctors promptly carried out tests and an emergency angiography, as there was suspicion of a problem with the heart or major vessels.

The examination showed that no blockages in the coronary arteries or other dangerous pathologies were detected.

«All critical tests came back normal. The president’s overall condition is good. Additional examinations are continuing under doctors’ supervision,» the minister said.

The decision on whether Tufan Erhürman will remain in the hospital will be made after all examinations are completed.

Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz and TRNC Prime Minister Ünal Üstel have already wished the president a speedy recovery.
