The EU called on Turkey to respect Cyprus’s sovereign rights after the gas agreement
The EU’s top diplomat, Kaja Kallas, said that the European Union expects Turkey to respect the sovereignty and sovereign rights of all EU member states. The statement came after the signing of an agreement to build a gas pipeline between Turkey and Northern Cyprus.
The issue was raised at the EU foreign ministers’ meeting at the initiative of the Foreign Minister of the Republic of Cyprus, Constantinos Kombos. He called the agreement illegal and said it was yet another manifestation of Turkey’s policy in the Eastern Mediterranean.
