Two road accidents occurred overnight in Famagusta: motorcyclist and moped rider in intensive care

Two road accidents occurred in Famagusta in one night: the motorcycle rider and the driver of a three-wheeled electric moped sustained serious injuries. Both were taken to hospital and admitted to the intensive care unit for observation, and investigations into both incidents are under way.

The first accident occurred on 5 September at around 21:00 on Mustafa Kemal Boulevard. According to police, 66-year-old Mehmet Arıkel was driving a vehicle with registration number TGL 644 in a northerly direction and, opposite Kalyon Market, turned right without giving way to vehicles on the main road. The vehicle blocked the path of a motorcycle ridden by 26-year-old Osman Kiper, who was travelling in the opposite direction.

The motorcyclist sustained serious injuries. He was taken to Famagusta State Hospital and then transferred to Near East University Hospital in Yeniboğaziçi, where he was admitted to intensive care. The driver of the vehicle, Mehmet Arıkel, was arrested.

The second accident occurred on 6 September at around 02:30 on Şirin Bayır Street (Şirin Bayır). 57-year-old Atış Kaşsever was riding a three-wheeled electric moped eastwards when he lost control on a road unevenness. The moped overturned onto its right side, travelled along the road and crashed into the front of a parked vehicle.

The moped rider, who sustained serious injuries, was taken to Famagusta State Hospital, from where he was also transferred to Near East University Hospital and kept under observation in intensive care.
