In Northern Cyprus, 71-year-old man kills ex-wife in the village of Aygün

On the morning of September 7, a 71-year-old man stabbed his ex-wife in the village of Aygün in the Famagusta district. 61-year-old Saliha Ozkol died at the scene, and the police of the TRNC are investigating.

According to the police, the attack took place at around 06:40 in the courtyard of the victim's home. The woman suffered stab wounds to the neck area and died before medics arrived.

After the attack, the suspect — identified by the initials M. A. in the police report — fled the scene. He was found at his own home in the area of the villages of Çanakkale and Ağıllar near Famagusta, where the man attempted to take his own life. He was taken to Famagusta State Hospital in serious condition, where he remains under medical observation.

The reasons for the conflict between the former spouses have not been officially disclosed. Police continue to examine the scene and question village residents.

This is the second family murder in Northern Cyprus in recent weeks. On August 22, a woman inflicted fatal stab wounds on her husband in Alayköy; on September 3, a court extended her detention by another eight days.
