Man detained in Kyrenia after hitting 81-year-old pedestrian at crossing

A 55-year-old man has been detained in Kyrenia after hitting an 81-year-old pedestrian in the face on Iskenderun Street. According to police, the reason was that the elderly man was, in the attacker’s view, taking too long to cross the road at the pedestrian crossing.

The incident occurred at around 10:30 on Friday, September 5. The victim fell after being hit, and his glasses flew off and broke. The detainee, identified by the initials H.A., faces charges of intentional property damage and causing grievous bodily harm. The victim is identified by the initials R.B.

In the same daily report, police also reported three other cases. In İskele and Famagusta, two men were detained for causing a disturbance in public places while intoxicated: a breathalyser showed 287 mg of alcohol for 47-year-old H.Ö. in İskele and 346 mg for 27-year-old İ.O.T. in Famagusta.

Another report was filed in İskele after music equipment was operated without permission at an entertainment venue at around 22:00; proceedings were initiated against the manager. A ban on music broadcasts and entertainment events is currently in effect in the TRNC, having been introduced after the Filo Jet vessel sank off Kyrenia. The Ministry of the Interior has extended the ban until midnight on September 9; the only exception is ceremonies held in wedding halls.
