Driver detained in Gönyeli on suspicion of stealing company’s underground electrical cables
A driver has been detained in Gönyeli on suspicion of stealing electrical cables belonging to the company where he worked.
Police officer Mehmet Portakal told the court that the investigation concerns a case involving a theft committed by an employee between 2024 and 2026.
According to police, the suspect, O.Y., a resident of Gönyeli who worked as a truck driver for a company managed by H.T., a resident of Alayköy, was detained following a complaint about the theft of underground electrical cables belonging to the company.
During a search of the parking area near the suspect’s home, police found various electrical cables of different sizes. They were seized as evidence.
Police said the investigation is at an early stage. The materials found must be examined, surveillance camera footage reviewed, and the suspect’s statements confirmed or disproved.
Judge Tutku Candaş ordered that O.Y. remain in police custody for 3 days to allow the investigation to continue.
