Sparks from a transformer burned 36 trees in a garden in Güneşköy
Thirty-four citrus trees and two pear trees burned in the village of Güneşköy in Northern Cyprus. According to the police of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, the fire was caused by sparks flying from a transformer on an electricity pole at the edge of a private garden in the Topel area.

The fire occurred on 31 August. In addition to the trees, the fire destroyed 100 m of drip irrigation tape and one dönüm of dry grass—approximately 1,300 m². Fire crews extinguished the blaze, while police continue to investigate the circumstances of the incident.
The electricity network in Northern Cyprus is operated by the state-owned company Kıb-Tek. The previous day, 31 August, the company completed construction of a 3-km bypass line and restored a stable electricity supply to Lefke and Yeşilyırmak; these areas had been without power for more than 24 hours following the storm.
