Inflation in Northern Cyprus reached 16.95% in the first half of the year
The Statistical Office of Northern Cyprus published data on the consumer price index for June 2026.
According to the report, inflation in June stood at 2.29%. Over the first six months of 2026, prices rose by 16.95%, and compared with June last year, the inflation rate reached 38.46%.
The sharpest price increase in June was recorded in the category of housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels — by 8.52%. Prices also rose noticeably for restaurant and hotel services (4.38%), alcoholic beverages and tobacco products (4.30%), communications (3.73%), education (3.47%), furniture and household goods (3.10%), and clothing and footwear (2.52%).
At the same time, prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages fell on average by 1.07%, while various goods and services declined by 0.53%.
Among individual goods and services, the steepest price increases were seen in preparatory courses for university admission (44.07%), taro (36.06%) and airline tickets on the Ercan — Ankara route (35.73%).
The most notable price declines were recorded for watermelons (62.74%), zucchini (53.37%) and melons (50.31%).
