Police detain five people in İskele in two drug cases

Police carried out two separate drug operations in İskele and detained five people. The investigations also uncovered two other incidents: the illegal transfer of people from the Republic of Cyprus for 650 euros and identity fraud when renting a car.

On September 18, officers from the Crime Prevention Department of the Lefkoşa Police Directorate searched the home of a 35-year-old man with the initials M.A.U. in İskele. They found approximately 5 g of methamphetamine, a grinder containing traces of cannabis and two plastic bottles adapted for drug use. M.A.U. and 20-year-old H.T., who is believed to be involved in the case, were detained.

Further investigation revealed that on August 19, M.A.U. had secretly entered a first-degree military zone in the Dilekkaya area and illegally transferred five people residing in the Republic of Cyprus to Northern Cyprus for 650 euros.

On the same day, at around 18:00, officers from the İskele Police Directorate searched a house where 43-year-old S.S., 29-year-old E.D. and 50-year-old O.S. were together. They seized approximately 1 g of cannabis, a grinder containing around 20 mg of drug residue and 33 tablets dispensed under a “green prescription” — the system used for psychotropic medicines subject to strict control.

All three were detained. It was also established that on September 3, E.D. presented a photograph of someone else’s driving licence at a car rental company in İskele, claimed to be the licence holder and signed a car rental agreement in that person’s name.

The investigation into both cases is continuing.
