TRNC Agriculture Ministry destroys batches of apples and cucumbers over excessive pesticide residues
The Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources of the TRNC reported that, during its weekly inspection of food products, pesticide residues above the permissible limit were found in two of 50 samples — imported Galada apples and locally produced cucumbers. Both batches were destroyed.

Pesticide analyses were conducted at the State Laboratory from 28 August to 3 September. Both products imported into Northern Cyprus and those grown in the TRNC were tested.
Of the 39 samples of imported products, 38 showed pesticide levels within the permissible limits. The only rejected batch was Galada apples belonging to Svs Tic. Ltd; they were removed from sale and destroyed.
Eleven samples of locally produced goods were taken, 10 of which were found to be free of excessive residues. Excessive levels were recorded in cucumbers produced by Ali Gürbüz of Famagusta — the batch was destroyed at the producer’s own request.
Plant protection products are preparations used against pests, diseases and weeds; their residual content in food is subject to maximum limits, and batches exceeding those limits are not permitted for sale. The ministry emphasized that laboratory inspections of food products are conducted regularly and their results are published every week.
