Three people detained in three drug operations in Northern Cyprus
Northern Cyprus police conducted three separate operations in Yeşilyurt, Kyrenia and at the Beyarmudu border crossing. Three people were detained on suspicion of drug-related offences.
On July 25 at around 07:30, police officers in Yeşilyurt caught 46-year-old N.A. red-handed as he tended five cannabis plants, measuring between 150 and 180 centimetres in height, in a greenhouse. The plants were seized and the suspect was arrested.
That same day at around 14:00 in Kyrenia, police officers stopped 58-year-old C.A.G., who was behaving suspiciously. According to police, during the inspection he was smoking a hand-rolled cigarette containing tobacco and a substance believed to be cannabis. The man was detained.
Another incident occurred on July 26 at around 01:30 at the Beyarmudu border crossing. During a search of a vehicle entering Northern Cyprus from the Republic of Cyprus, officers from the narcotics unit discovered 200 A4-sized sheets which, according to police, contained a synthetic cannabinoid.
The vehicle’s 47-year-old driver, Ö.Ö., was detained. Investigations into all three cases are continuing.
