Guinness World Records confirmed a new record on 25 August: 56-year-old Kosovo mathematics teacher Agim Agushi put on 17 T-shirts without stopping for a second as he kept the ball in the air with his head. The previous record in this category belonged to him as well — 14 T-shirts.

The entire attempt took just under four minutes. The number was not chosen by chance: 17 T-shirts is a reference to 17 February, Kosovo’s Independence Day, the record-holder himself explained.

Agushi teaches mathematics at a school and says he prepared for the attempt for a long time: he tried different techniques, restricting himself to an area of one square metre, and selected the right conditions — lighting and weather if the training took place outdoors. “As a mathematician, I like to say that we have a formula for combinations that allows us to arrive at the simplest and most effective solution,” he said.

His Guinness World Records titles also include putting on and taking off 28 T-shirts while keeping the ball in the air with his head, putting on and taking off a T-shirt 164 times in a single attempt, and the longest time two people have kept a ball moving between them using their heads — 34 minutes and 1 second together with Bujar Ajeti.

The record-holder wants to make his next attempts in the Burj Khalifa — the world’s tallest building.

It is worth bearing in mind that Guinness World Records records such achievements according to strict rules: an applicant submits video footage and witness confirmations, and the title is considered official only after verification. That is why some time usually passes between the attempt itself and the announcement of the record.
