KTAMS Accuses the Government of Pre-Election Nepotism
The chairman of the TRNC civil servants’ union KTAMS, Güven Bengihan, said that ahead of the elections the government is preparing to hire around 200 temporary and contract workers for political purposes. According to him, these vacancies are now being distributed among partners in the ruling coalition. Bengihan also condemned the practice of making short-term appointments to ministerial adviser positions (musteshars) shortly before they retire — this is done solely to secure inflated salaries (up to TL 268,000 per month) and severance payments (up to TL 14.4 million).
The union leader stressed that while courts and hospitals are suffocating under a real shortage of staff, public resources are being spent on expanding payrolls and political patronage. Against the backdrop of high inflation, Bengihan called for full wage indexation and for the minimum salary to be brought in line with the actual cost of living.
