TRNC artists and musicians form a trade union — charter submitted to labour minister

A trade union for artists, musicians and stage workers — KTSAM-SEN — is being established in Northern Cyprus. The founders submitted the charter and registration documents to TRNC Minister of Labour and Social Security Oğuzhan Hasipoğlu for official registration.

The organisation will bring together people working in the cultural and performing arts sectors, including performers, musicians and technical staff. The founders identify protecting the economic, social and professional rights of industry workers as its main objective.

Other areas of focus for the future trade union include developing standards for copyright and contracts with artists, combating unregistered employment and protecting local performers.

Representatives of the trade union registration service (Sendika Mukayyitliği), which handles the registration of new organisations, attended the meeting. Minister Oğuzhan Hasipoğlu said he would support efforts to improve the rights of those working in culture and the arts.
