Kıb-Tek restores stable electricity supply in Lefke and Yeşilırmak
The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus’s state electricity company Kıb-Tek has restored a stable electricity supply in Lefke and Yeşilırmak. Company director Dalman Aydın said the alternative power line was completed and switched on the previous evening, after which both areas began receiving electricity as normal.

The outages began on Saturday, 29 August, when a storm damaged the high-voltage line supplying the western part of Northern Cyprus. Lefke was without electricity for more than 24 hours, after which Kıb-Tek introduced rolling power cuts, supplying electricity to different areas in turn while repair work continued.
The company decided not to repair the damaged line directly. As Kıb-Tek board chairman Gürsel Uzun explained, poles and cables of this type are made to order and cannot be replaced quickly. Instead, a 3 km bypass line was built to the area, with crews from across Northern Cyprus and contracting companies brought in for its construction.
The work was made more difficult by the weather: access roads to the site were washed out, and machinery had to move through the mud. As a result, the timeline was pushed back—the line had originally been expected to come online on Sunday evening.
