Lefkoşa court remands suspect with 119 grams of cannabis in custody; his child placed in social services’ care
A court in Lefkoşa has ordered that a man accused of possessing drugs remain in custody until the proceedings are completed. A search of his home uncovered around 119 grams of cannabis and cash allegedly obtained from sales. His 29-month-old child was placed under the supervision of social services.

Police officer Berat Kızmaz told the court that the search took place on 21 August 2026 from 21:00 to 21:15. In a bedroom wardrobe, officers found 38,500 Turkish lira and €10 in addition to the drugs; the money is believed to be proceeds from sales. The suspect’s wife is wanted.
Senior Judge Zehra Bilgeç noted the seriousness of drug-related offences and the fact that the suspect has no established ties to the country. He will remain in custody for up to one month while the investigation continues.
