Police seize 650 g of cocaine and 336 MDMA tablets in Lefkoşa

In Lefkoşa, officers from the Department for Combating Drugs and Smuggling seized around 650 g of a substance believed to be cocaine and hundreds of MDMA tablets from a detainee. Suspect A. Y. was brought before a court and will remain in police custody for three days.

The operation took place in Lefkoşa on 28 August. Police Sergeant Cemal Ramiz told the court that officers found the detainee in possession of around 650 g of cocaine, 336 intact MDMA tablets, two halves and 12 fragments, around 10 g of blue powder also believed to be MDMA, around 20 g of marijuana and another approximately 10 g of a substance believed to be a narcotic.

In addition to the drugs, police seized two black electronic scales bearing traces of the substance and $1,110 in cash, which investigators believe were proceeds from sales.

During questioning, the detainee said that he collected the substances from locations sent to him via messages by an unidentified person.

Police told the court that the investigation had only just begun: the suspect’s statements still had to be verified, the seized substances would be sent for analysis, camera footage needed to be examined and another person had to be traced. Senior Judge Meltem Dündar granted the request and ordered that the detainee remain in custody for three days.
