Two-storey house burns down in Lefkoşa’s old city, fire spreads to neighbouring building
A two-storey residential house burned down in Surlariçi, the historic centre of Lefkoşa. The fire on Bodamyalı Street was noticed at around 16:00, and after it was extinguished, the home was deemed unfit for habitation.
According to preliminary police findings, the fire started because of a short circuit in an electrical extension cord. Household belongings were destroyed in the house, while the walls were damaged by smoke and the water used by firefighters to put out the flames.
The fire also spread to the neighbouring building, where the bedroom’s finishings were damaged by the heat. Fire crews extinguished the blaze, and police continue to investigate the circumstances.
