The dream of a home of their own ended up in the trash: a woman in Turkey accidentally threw away a kilogram of gold

An unusual incident has taken place in the Turkish city of Bursa, and it is already being called one of the most expensive household mix-ups of the year. A family that had been saving money for years to buy their own home lost nearly 1 kilogram of gold worth around 6.13 million Turkish lira (about $133,000) after the valuables were mistakenly thrown into a garbage container.

The incident happened in the Yıldırım district. According to the owner of the gold, Sedair Kurnaz, he kept the savings in a black bag hidden inside clothing to protect them from possible theft. The family had already agreed to buy a house in the Akçalar district, and the man planned to use the gold to pay for the deal. However, when it was time to retrieve the savings, the bag was no longer there.

It turned out that during cleaning, Kurnaz’s wife mistook the bag for trash and threw it into the container near the house. After that, the family immediately contacted the police and municipal services. The man also began searching garbage containers in the area on his own, hoping the bag had not yet been taken away.

Municipal workers, police and local residents joined the search. Law enforcement officers began reviewing surveillance camera footage to determine whether the bag was taken away by a garbage truck or picked up by someone rummaging through waste. For now, the fate of the valuables remains unknown.

Sedair Kurnaz has appealed to residents, asking them to report any information about the find. According to him, the gold jewelry represented years of family savings that were meant to help make the dream of owning a home come true.
