TRNC Parliament to convene for extraordinary session on 10 September — Filo Jet disaster on agenda
The Assembly of the Republic of the TRNC will hold its third extraordinary session on Thursday, 10 September, at 10:00. The agenda includes five items, among them two proposals for a parliamentary investigation into the sinking of the Filo Jet ferry off the port of Girne.

The passenger vessel sank off Girne on 30 August. The search for those missing is continuing into its tenth day; the minister and a number of officials have already resigned, but the Republican Turkish Party (CTP) considered these resignations insufficient and called for a parliamentary investigation.
There are now two such proposals. The first was submitted by the CTP, while the second was jointly submitted by the chair of the National Unity Party (UBP) and Prime Minister Ünal Üstel, and the chair of the Democratic Party (DP), Fikri Ataoğlu. Both documents will undergo preliminary consideration at the same session.
The first item on the agenda is a bill approving an additional protocol to the agreement between the TRNC and Türkiye on the development of fibre-optic infrastructure.
Lawmakers will also return to the proposal to amend the law on elections and referendums — which is being submitted for reconsideration — and discuss amendments to the law on public servants and the law on monthly payments to employees of public institutions.
