Migration amnesty in the TRNC officially came into force

The law was published in Resmi Gazete and gave foreigners with expired visas a chance to regularize their status. To do this, it is necessary to submit an electronic application through the Immigration Department's online system within 45 days and pay a fixed fine in the amount of one minimum gross salary (persons under 18 are exempt), after which all past penalties are annulled. Applicants inside the country will receive a residence permit for 60 days and the right to apply for a work visa without leaving the island (without *ön izin*). Offenders abroad may enter under the amnesty only if they own property on the island or have close relatives who are residents of the TRNC. Students can legalize their status exclusively through their universities and on the condition that they have completed at least 50% of their study program.
All applications will undergo a police security check. The processing time for documents will be up to 5 days for domestic applications and up to 30 days for international ones.
