Passenger minibus crashes into trees on Ercan–İskele road: five injured

A traffic accident involving a minibus occurred on the Ercan — İskele highway near Geçitkale. The driver and four passengers were injured in the crash.

According to police, the accident occurred on 1 August at around 17:45 near the Bardak Zeytinyağı Fabrikası olive oil factory in the Geçitkale area.

Thirty-three-year-old Ümitcan Orunov, who was driving the minibus with registration number TUV 728, was travelling in the direction of Ercan when he lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle left the road and crashed into trees at the roadside.

Following the impact, the driver became trapped inside the passenger compartment. Firefighters from the Geçitkale Fire Department carried out a rescue operation and freed him.

As a result of the accident, the driver and four passengers were taken by ambulance to Famagusta State Hospital, where they received medical attention.

Six other passengers who were in the minibus were examined at the scene.

Police have launched an investigation into the circumstances of the accident.
