TRNC Minister of Environment: The solution to the garbage problem has reached its final stage
TRNC Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Tourism, Culture, Youth and Environment Fikri Ataoğlu said that joint work with local authorities to solve the garbage problem has reached its final stage. A new meeting with representatives of the Republic of Turkey and municipal mayors is scheduled for next week to make final decisions.
Speaking in parliament in response to CTP MP Sıla Usar İncirli's remarks on digital security and the environmental crisis, Ataoğlu acknowledged that the criticism regarding fires and landfill problems was justified. He noted that the project to establish waste transfer stations and move toward “zero waste” is being implemented jointly with local authorities and the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change of Turkey. The minister also added that he had raised this issue during recent contacts in Azerbaijan. He stressed that smoke from landfills harms the environment and damages the country's image among foreign tourists, so eliminating the crisis is being handled as a priority.
