TRNC Health Ministry approves Ebola diagnostics protocol and drug procurement
The High Committee for Infectious Diseases under the TRNC Ministry of Health issued an official statement regarding the readiness of the country’s healthcare system for the diagnosis and treatment of Ebola virus. The ministry stressed that the situation is under the full control of international organizations, and the current actions of the local authorities are purely preventive in nature.
According to the committee’s official decision, if suspicious symptoms are detected in patients, samples for establishing an accurate diagnosis will be promptly sent to the National Public Health Reference Laboratory of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Turkey. At the same time, the TRNC Department of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutics has already initiated procedures to procure specialized monoclonal antibodies, namely the drugs Ebanga and Inmazeb, which are officially used to treat this infection.
The ministry reminds that Ebola is a rare but extremely dangerous viral disease that is transmitted through the biological fluids of infected people or animals. Initial symptoms include sudden high fever, chills, severe headache and muscle pain, general weakness, loss of appetite, as well as subsequent nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. The High Committee for Infectious Diseases continues to continuously monitor decisions by global medical organizations and assures that if additional sanitary measures become necessary, the public will be informed immediately.
