Fraud in the UK: £500,000 fine for selling adulterated doner meat
In the United Kingdom, a high-profile court case has concluded against a network of suppliers that sold a mixture of poultry and other meats as lamb for doner kebabs. The total amount of fines imposed came to £500,000.
The investigation revealed a systematic practice of falsifying the product’s composition, in which cheaper ingredients were passed off as premium lamb. This not only misled consumers, but also violated food labeling standards.
Food safety authorities stressed that such measures set a precedent aimed at curbing deception in the fast-food sector. The fine served as a stern warning to other market participants about the inadmissibility of manipulating product quality.
