The Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources of Northern Cyprus has installed four navigation buoys off the coast of Alagadi and Alsancak to mark the maritime boundaries of protected fishing zones. The buoys were installed at depths of 45 to 75 metres. They are clearly visible from the shore and are equipped with signal lights during the hours of darkness.

The protected zones were completely closed to fishing in 2023. Their purpose is to allow marine life and fish stocks to recover and thereby preserve the sustainability of fishing. The authorities expect the new buoys to help fishermen navigate the sea more effectively and comply with the restrictions in place, as well as to facilitate monitoring of compliance with the rules.

Minister of Agriculture and Natural Resources Hüseyin Çavuş described the installation of the buoys as an important step towards preserving the marine environment and fish stocks of Northern Cyprus.
