6 drivers detained in Cyprus for traffic violations in one day
Two days before the news was published, nationwide checks of drivers were carried out in Northern Cyprus. Police checked 2804 drivers. As a result of the checks, 402 drivers were held accountable for various violations, 44 vehicles were removed from the roads, and 6 drivers were detained.
Of the 402 violations, 159 involved exceeding the speed limit, while 34 — driving under the influence of alcohol. In addition, 30 drivers were fined for not having a valid road permit, 11 — for not having insurance, 9 — for not wearing a seat belt, and 3 — for using a mobile phone while driving.
Three drivers did not have driving licences or insurance coverage. Another three drivers were driving vehicles without the appropriate operating permit, three violated the requirements of road signs and markings, and two were riding without a protective helmet. One driver each was held accountable for dangerous driving, violating traffic light requirements, driving a vehicle that had not undergone a technical inspection, violating the rules for using light signals, and failing to comply with a police order to stop.
Another 140 drivers were held accountable for other traffic violations.
Police said that nationwide checks on the roads would continue.
