In Northern Cyprus, the publication of photos and personal data of suspects was banned before trial

The amended Criminal Procedure Law has been published in the Official Gazette. Under the new amendment, a strict ban is introduced on publishing in the press, on social media and in any other media photographs, names and any personal data of suspects from the moment they are detained by the police until formal charges are brought before the court. The only exception applies to cases where publication is necessary for the search for fugitives and special written permission from the police has been issued for this purpose. Media outlets and individuals face criminal liability for violating this rule.
