TRNC police detain four in drug cases in Alsancak, Famagusta and İskele

Four people have been detained in Northern Cyprus following police operations in Alsancak, Famagusta and İskele. Cocaine and marijuana, electronic scales bearing traces of drugs, two live rounds and large sums of cash—allegedly proceeds from the sale of illegal substances, according to investigators—were seized.

On September 4 in Alsancak, officers from the Narcotics and Smuggling Prevention Directorate searched the home of 21-year-old T. K. They found around 4 g of a substance believed to be cocaine, electronic scales bearing traces of the drug, and two live rounds of 9 mm and 7.65 mm ammunition. The man was detained.

In Famagusta at around 17:45, a tourist police patrol stopped 31-year-old C. M. for an identity check. He threw a case to the ground and attempted to flee, but was detained. The case contained around 6 g of a substance believed to be marijuana, packaged for sale, and 1,700 TL. A subsequent search of his home found a further approximately 3 g of the same substance, electronic scales, nine sheets of foil, and cash totaling 189,475 TL, £170, US$130 and €50.

During a search of the home of 22-year-old O. K. in İskele, officers found around 10 g of a substance believed to be marijuana, a grinder and scales bearing traces of drugs. A 26-year-old, Z. S. A. A., was detained along with him; a further approximately 60 g of the same substance, as well as a grinder and electronic scales, were seized from his home.

Investigations into all three incidents are ongoing.
