The 18th Pekmez Festival is taking place in Ozanköy: Sinan Güzen’s concert starts at 21:30

The 18th Pekmez Festival, organised by Kyrenia Municipality, is taking place in Ozanköy from 28 to 30 August. The main event this evening will be a concert by Turkish performer Sinan Güzen, which will start at 21:30.

The festival is dedicated to pekmez, a thick syrup made from boiled-down grape juice, and dishes prepared with it. Over the three days, the programme includes concerts, performances by folk groups, poetry readings, cooking demonstrations and competitions.

The first day, 28 August, began with the opening of the market stalls. Folk dance ensembles from Kyrenia Municipality and the Ozanköy Culture and Arts Society, as well as the Otantik group, took to the stage; the evening concluded with a concert by Leman Sam.

Today’s programme opens at 19:00 with a presentation on the life and poetry of poet Osman Türkay, including readings of his works. At 19:15, Fezile Barut will hold a workshop on preparing paluze with pekmez; at 19:30, there will be a drum show by Meryem Şah; at 19:45, a concert by Ebru & Amor Latino; and at 20:45, performances by folk groups from Serbia and Poland.

The festival stage will also feature the Kyrenia Youth Art Lovers Society, the Nazfolk ensemble from Turkey and the Xheladin Zeqiri group from North Macedonia. At 21:00, the Ozanköy Sports Club will hold its traditional lottery, followed by the concert.

The festival is the first event in the Girne Arkın Group Fest26 programme. It will conclude tomorrow evening.
