Computer Engineers Chamber Demands Clarification Over Possible Cyberattack on Labor Ministry Website
The Turkish Cypriot Union of Chambers of Engineers and Architects (KTMMOB) and the Chamber of Computer Engineers (BMO) have demanded official explanations from the Ministry of Labor in connection with rumors of a cyberattack on the work permit issuance portal.
Main demands and questions:
• Investigation and transparency: BMO President Esat Gurhan called for a thorough investigation into the incident, the identification of those responsible, and clarification of whether the attack was the result of negligence or weak infrastructure.
• Risk of leak: The Chamber demands a clear answer as to whether the system was breached and whether citizens’ personal data, including passport details and payment information, was compromised.
• Systemic solutions: Gurhan stressed the need to create a national cybersecurity strategy, conduct regular audits of government systems, and launch a unified national cybersecurity center.
The Chamber of Computer Engineers has already sent an official request to the ministry and expressed readiness to provide technical support to protect the country’s digital security.
