The Republic of Cyprus Police have detained three 18-year-old suspects in the case of an attack on a 47-year-old Turkish Cypriot that took place early on Sunday morning in Ayia Napa. In addition, law enforcement officers are continuing to search for another person who may be involved in the incident.

According to the investigation, the detainees hold Swedish passports, while their origins are linked to Albania, Chile and Iraq. Today they are due to appear before the Famagusta District Court in Paralimni, where the issue of their detention pending investigation will be considered.

Police said the suspects were identified after reviewing CCTV footage and analyzing the evidence collected.

According to preliminary information, shortly before the attack the 47-year-old Turkish Cypriot was with a friend. After the two parted ways at around 05:00, a conflict for reasons that are still unknown broke out between the victim and a group of young people. During the fight, the man fell, hit his head on the asphalt and sustained serious injuries. Investigators believe the victim and the detainees did not know each other previously.

As a reminder, the injured man was found at around 06:00 on Ayias Mavris Avenue in Ayia Napa. Doctors diagnosed him with a brain hemorrhage and a fractured skull base. After receiving first aid at Famagusta General Hospital, the man was transferred to Nicosia General Hospital, where he remains in serious but stable condition.

TRNC President Tufan Erhürman said that the authorities continue to closely monitor the victim's condition and the progress of the investigation through the bilateral technical committee in coordination with the Republic of Cyprus Police.
