Suspect detained with 3.1 kg of drugs remanded in custody
The court ordered that the man detained in Nicosia during Operation «Typhoon» remain in custody until the start of the trial. He was found in possession of 3.1 kilograms of cannabis.
According to police, information about the suspect’s involvement in the possession and distribution of drugs was received on 17 July. During the operation, the man was stopped in the Ortaköy area. On seeing the police, he attempted to flee but was detained.
No illegal substances were found during a search of the car, but vacuum-packed bags containing 3 kilograms and 100 grams of cannabis were discovered in the bedroom during a search of the house.
According to investigators, the detainee admitted that he had received the drugs on the instructions of another person. He also said that he had previously bought another 89 grams of cannabis, used part of it and left the rest in various locations in Nicosia.
Taking into account the large quantity of drugs seized and the risk of flight, the court ordered that the accused remain in custody for up to two months pending the start of the trial.
