Man who stole goods from a supermarket remanded for three days
The court ordered that a man suspected of stealing goods from a supermarket in Gemikonağı be held in custody for three days.
According to police, on 10 July the suspect took groceries and cosmetics worth a total of 4,519.09 Turkish lira from the store without paying at the checkout. The stolen items included ice cream, biscuits, fruit, juices, chicken, meat products and cosmetic goods.
After the store management filed a complaint, the man was detained and the stolen items were found on him and seized as material evidence.
During the court hearing, police said the detainee did not present any identification documents. Investigators still need to establish his identity and check whether his stay in Northern Cyprus is lawful. In addition, the suspect gave a confession, which still needs to be verified.
The court granted the police request and remanded the man in custody for three days to complete the initial investigative steps.
