Police in Northern Cyprus issue emergency warning to drivers
The General Directorate of Police of the TRNC (PGM) has issued an official warning to residents and visitors to the island in connection with the growing number of serious traffic accidents. Ahead of the holiday period, the traffic police is moving to an enhanced operating mode, and checks on key highways and within city limits will be significantly tightened.
Particular attention will be paid by patrol services to identifying drivers operating vehicles under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The department stressed that there will be no compromises with violators: the law provides for strict measures, including heavy fines, vehicle confiscation and arrest. Police are urging citizens to act responsibly: if they have consumed alcohol, they should use taxi services or entrust driving to sober relatives, so as not to put their own lives or the lives of others at risk.
