Attempts to privatize the Port of Famagusta must be stopped
Bülent Kanatlı, head of the port workers' union (Liman-Sen), sharply criticized Minister of Public Works and Transport Erhan Arıklı over plans to transfer the Port of Famagusta to the private sector. Kanatlı stated that the port is a strategic state asset and that its privatization would deal a blow to the economy and sovereignty of Northern Cyprus. The union demands that this process be stopped immediately and says it is ready for large-scale strikes if the government ignores the workers' demands.
