TRNC Fire Department: Lighting fires is strictly prohibited until October 31
The General Directorate of the TRNC Fire Department reminded that from May 1 to October 31, lighting fires outdoors is strictly prohibited by law. The restriction applies to any open flame, including burning dry waste, branches and grass while cleaning plots.
Residents are urged to strictly observe safety measures: do not throw out smoldering cigarette butts from car windows, clear the area around barbecues of dry grass, and check electrical wiring to prevent short circuits caused by overloaded networks. When carrying out welding or construction work, a fire extinguisher must be available.
If the first signs of smoke or fire are detected, it is necessary to immediately call the emergency services numbers: **199** (Fire Service), **177** (Forest Fires) or **155** (Police).
