Cyprus presidential press office: UN secretary-general has a plan to break the deadlock in negotiations

The director of the press office of the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Victoras Papadopoulos, said that UN Secretary-General António Guterres has prepared a concrete plan to break the deadlock in the negotiations on the Cyprus settlement. According to him, the coming weeks will be decisive for the further political process.

At present, diplomatic consultations are being conducted at various levels with the active involvement of both the UN and the European Union, which is coordinating its actions with the secretary-general. Papadopoulos stressed that a critical moment has now arrived for the Cypriot leadership and society, requiring maximum unity.

As part of the preparations for the resumption of dialogue, diplomatic efforts have been made to interest Turkey in returning to the negotiating table from the point where talks were suspended. In addition, work is under way to integrate the EU into the negotiation process, which should ensure full compliance of any future agreement with European principles and standards.
