Work to Preserve Turkish and Greek Cemeteries Continues in Cyprus
Ali Tuncay, the Turkish Cypriot co-chair of the Technical Committee on Cultural Heritage, said that work to preserve and restore cemeteries across the island is continuing.
According to him, around 70 cemeteries have already been restored, are currently undergoing work or are being prepared for the start of work.
The work includes repairing and reinforcing fences, restoring graves, clearing vegetation and improving the surrounding areas.
Ali Tuncay noted that, under the agreements reached, families may also renovate the gravestones of their relatives at their own expense. At the same time, the Technical Committee is ready to provide the necessary advisory and technical support.
He added that new work will begin at Turkish cemeteries in the Limassol area in the coming weeks, after which it will gradually continue in other areas of southern Cyprus.
