Final stage of repairs: the Kyrenia–Değirmenlik mountain road will soon open to traffic

Restrictions on the Kyrenia — Değirmenlik mountain road (on the section from the Acapulco junction to the quarry) are coming to an end — roadworks have reached their final stage. This stretch has long had a bad reputation because of its high accident rate. The main threat here was loaded dump trucks: they would slowly crawl uphill, tempting drivers into dangerous overtaking maneuvers, and on the descents the heavy vehicles would regularly suffer brake failures, leading to horrific accidents.

Major repairs, widening and resurfacing are intended to permanently solve these problems. Upgrading the road will make travel safer, and the long climbs and descents will no longer be a high-risk zone.
