19 fires reported in Northern Cyprus over the week, causing TL 2.15 million in damage

Over the past week, 19 fires and 29 incidents requiring special responses by fire crews were reported in Northern Cyprus. The damage caused by the fires amounted to TL 2 million 153 thousand, according to the weekly report of the TRNC Fire Service.

The report lists several likely causes of the fires, including a short circuit in the electrical network, discarded cigarette butts that had not been extinguished, burning waste during site clean-up, arson using flammable substances, a fuel leak in a vehicle and the ignition of grease deposits accumulated in a chimney.

The special responses were not directly related to firefighting. During the week, firefighters rescued cats trapped in cars and shafts in residential buildings, pulled a kid and dogs out of a well, freed people from stuck elevators and extricated people trapped in vehicles after road accidents.

In addition, fire crews provided road safety, conducted fire safety training sessions and took preventive measures at facilities, as well as transporting the bodies of deceased people to hospital for forensic examination.
